This is a fast airplane read .... a couple of concentrated hours. It is written
for smart-but-busy people who don't have a lot of time to
read.

- A short battle scenario to help provide a specific example to think about while reading the rest of the book. 32 pages
- Chapter 1: The Nature of Command and Control
- Discusses what it means "to be in control" and the problems of uncertainty and time pressure. 35 pages
- Chapter 2: Command and Control Theory
- Provides one of the shortest and most effective overviews of information flow, the responsibilities of commanders, and organizational design we've ever seen.
- The charts on pages 81 and 90 are worth looking at if you only have 5 minutes. 42 pages
- Chapter 3: Creating Effective Command and Control
- Talks about how to implement what they call mission command and control which, if adapted for business use, would lead to competitive fitness (complexity scientists would call it conscious self-organization)
- Includes areas such as: "commander's intent," "low-level initiative," and "mutual trust". 31 pages
